Stablecoin issuer Circle has natively deployed its dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC and euro-pegged stablecoin EURC on Plasma, a Layer-1 blockchain. The integration also enables support for Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) and Bridge Kit.
Plasma is a proprietary Layer-1 network specialized for stablecoin transactions. This announcement is expected to broaden its utility across payments, decentralized finance (DeFi), and treasury management. Circle stated that institutional users can access fiat-to-digital asset on/off-ramp services through Plasma, while developers can integrate USDC and EURC directly into their applications.
USDC and EURC are each redeemable 1:1 for US dollars and euros respectively, and comply with regulatory frameworks including the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. Analysts note that Plasma’s position as institutional-grade payment and trading infrastructure could be strengthened, particularly in the European market where euro-denominated stablecoin flows are expanding.
Since launching its mainnet beta in September 2025, Plasma has established itself as a high-throughput network optimized for stablecoin use cases. At launch, it reported $2 billion in total value locked (approximately 2.7 trillion won) and over 100 DeFi integrations. The network leverages its proprietary PlasmaBFT consensus algorithm to deliver sub-second transaction finality, and notably does not require its native token XPL for basic stablecoin transfers. XPL is used exclusively for gas fees and network operations.
As of August 28, 2026, XPL’s market capitalization stood at $246.3 million (approximately 340 billion won), with the token trading at $0.08825, up 2.9% over the previous 24 hours.
Enterprise users have already been able to access USDC through Plasma One, a neobank application launched in 2025. Starting today, developers can integrate USDC and EURC into Plasma-based DeFi and payment applications. Circle’s CCTP facilitates seamless USDC movement between supported blockchains, while the Bridge Kit enables developers to implement cross-chain stablecoin flows with minimal effort.
This launch could serve as a catalyst accelerating adoption of both Plasma and Circle stablecoins. The interoperability provided by CCTP is likely to appeal to developers building cross-chain applications. At the same time, the regulatory compliance track record of USDC and EURC is expected to work in favor of attracting enterprise users. With stablecoin demand growing, particularly in Europe, analysts suggest that networks like Plasma are laying the foundation for more efficient and scalable on-chain financial systems.
Plasma Key Metrics Overview
| Metric | Value | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Mainnet beta launch | – | September 2025 |
| TVL at launch | $2 billion | September 2025 |
| TVL peak (entered global top 10) | $1.76 billion | April 2026 |
| XPL market cap | $246.3 million | August 28, 2026 |
| XPL price | $0.08825 (+2.9%) | August 28, 2026 |
According to analysis from crypto data provider KuCoin, Plasma’s TVL surged 85% in a single month in April 2026, reaching $1.76 billion and entering the global top 10 blockchains. However, XPL’s price remains down approximately 95% from its yearly high, with analysts attributing selling pressure to the July 28 unlock of 1 billion tokens from public sale allocations. This underscores that token price volatility remains significant, independent of the growth trajectory in TVL and ecosystem integrations.
Circle is providing documentation for developers on USDC, EURC, and CCTP integration, while institutional users can access these stablecoins on Plasma through Circle Mint.
