Webull Partners With Coinbase to Expand Crypto Trading and Custody in Canada: how 12 outlets framed it

    Webull, Coinbase in Canada

The deal gives Webull Canada clients access to digital asset trading while Coinbase provides core crypto infrastructure, including custody and trading services, as the partnership extends beyond the United States, Brazil, and Australia.

Webull Canada CEO Michael Constantino said, “Canadian investors expect access to a growing range of asset classes, and crypto has become an increasingly important part of that mix.”

Coinbase’s involvement is framed as providing “the infrastructure needed to deliver this offering with the scale and reliability our clients expect,” according to the announcement cited in the sources.

The expansion follows Webull’s decision to reintroduce crypto trading after stepping back from digital assets in 2023, when it ceased offering access through its app in July 2023 and began rebuilding in 2025.

    Regulation, custody, and limits

The Canadian rollout is tied to Webull Canada Crypto Limited, which is described as regulated by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organisation (CIRO) and admitted as a CIRO member in June, while Webull’s disclosures say crypto assets do not qualify for CIPF coverage.

Finance Magnates reports that Webull Securities (Canada) Limited and Webull Canada Crypto Limited are separate entities under common ownership, with CIRO and the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) regulating both, but “Webull states that CIPF does not cover crypto assets.”

Coinbase’s partnership is also presented alongside a demand backdrop from an Ontario Securities Commission survey, which the sources cite as showing 25% of respondents reported having some crypto, up from 10% in 2023.

In the same regulatory context, the sources say Webull Canada Crypto Limited provides order-execution-only crypto trading, meaning customers make their own investment decisions without receiving portfolio recommendations from the platform.

Cointelegraph adds that Webull’s Canadian website currently displays 10 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and Solana (SOL), while indicating that additional assets are also available.

    What’s next for users

Crypto News | Other says Webull Canada will use Coinbase’s Crypto-as-a-Service platform to support digital asset trading and custody, while Coinbase handles liquidity and infrastructure so customers can trade without leaving the Webull platform.

Michael Constantino is quoted again on the rationale for the move, saying, “Our partnership with Coinbase provides the infrastructure needed to deliver this offering with the scale and reliability our clients expect.”

The sources also note that the OSC survey cited by Coinbase found that 25% of Canadians own crypto assets or crypto funds, up from 10% in 2023, and that among respondents identified as investors the ownership rate reached 39%.

While the partnership expands access, the sources emphasize that crypto trading remains subject to risk disclosures and that CIPF generally covers missing property for eligible investment accounts but does not insure investors against falling crypto prices, trading losses, or the failure of an asset.
